This observation inspired him to develop the first functional synthetic Reverse Osmosis membrane capable of rejecting salt and passing fresh water at reasonable flow rates and realistic pressures. Today the impact of this discovery has been felt worldwide, ranging from applications in homes, city-wide units to “rivers of fresh water.” Best of all, REVERSE OSMOSIS (RO) units are available for your home.  Today thousands of home owners enjoy pure RO water from a home unit available from Ozark Water and Air Services.

The R/O semi permeable membrane works by water being forced over its surface under pressure (at least 60 PSI is needed – higher PSI produces purer water faster).  H2O and Oxygen passes thru this membrane as pure water. The other noxious chemical pollutants are not able to pass thru.  Only part of the water makes its way thru the membrane the rest serves to flush or self-clean the membrane. Therefore R/O filters do not become saturated like all Charcoal filters do.

An R/O semi permeable membrane can last for years under optimal conditions – The more it is used the better.  Overtime tiny holes can develop in the membrane & let contaminants pass thru.  With most other filter systems available you never know when contaminants are passed thru.  We have developed the annual R.O.P.E. Test so you can verify your drinking water’s quality.

The Ozark R/O Pure water system provides much purer water then typical charcoal water filters.  All charcoal filters get saturated with contaminants at some point.  You never know when it becomes saturated, usually within a few months.  Many times charcoal filters will suddenly flush some contaminants into your glass of drinking water – you never know when – so you have to guess when to change the filter cartridge.

The 3 stages of the classic NS RO water filter system are:

Stage 1: The water first enters a 5 micron pre-filter which filters out the sediment and particles to protect the RO membrane.

Stage 2: The large semi-permeable reverse osmosis membrane that efficiently remove dissolved solids such as iron ,lead, cadmium, and volatile chemicals such as chlorine and fluorine and their by-products.

Stage 3: The last filter is a solid-block activated carbon filter that removes traces of pollutants.

The new and improved Nature’s Spring is a four-stage system that offers one unit for all city water systems and solid-block activated carbon in the pre- and post-filters. It also has a special timer with indicator lights so you know when to change the filters.

The four stages of the improved Nature’s Spring RO unit:

Stage One -Water first enters a 5-micron pre-filter that is 12 inches long. It removes any large sediment or debris that may damage the membrane.

Stage Two -A solid-block, activated carbon filter (inside the sediment pre-filter) removes excess chlorine to protect the PA membrane and assists in removing chloramines.

Stage Three – An efficient Polyamide (PA) reverse osmosis membrane produces 35 gallons of purified, highly oxygenated drinking water per day. Reverse osmosis effectively reduces total dissolved solids, including fluoride, lead and cadmium.

Stage Four – A 12-inch, solid-block, activated carbon filter removes traces of any pollutants while improving the taste. This improved Nature’s Spring RO unit features snap-on use, with a yield of 35 gallons of pure drinking water per day. One unit works on all potable water supplies. It’s also easier to service. Treated water must be stored for use. Remember, since chlorine is no longer in the water, it is susceptible to harboring germs from the air.

R/O Pure water systems include a sediment pre-filter which keeps damaging particles and sediment from reaching the vital R/O semi-permeable membrane.  So why do we need another pre-filter?

1. The internal pre-filter cannot be either observed or cleaned if it becomes clogged with sediment and rust.

2. When work is done on the water mains in your area rust & debris may be shaken loose.

3. Area flooding sometimes over burdens city water plants & allows debris into the water system.

All of this is trapped by the pre-filter.  IF you have the Ozark Washable Pre-filter then you can simply wash it off and be back to making R/O pure water efficiently.  Otherwise you will need to send in your R/O pure water system for service.  Which is simpler?  Which is more cost-effective.  Putting it succinctly, our many years of experience with the Ozark prefilters has proven that this inexpensive protection has more than paid for itself by extending the life of reverse osmosis components. It just makes better sense to keep something clean, rather than replacing it so often.

The Ozark Washable Prefilter Assembly includes quick connect couplings to connect it between the faucet and the R/O pure water system.
There are 2 filter cartridges available.

1. P-5 white sediment cartridge for non-chlorinated water supply like a well. These may be rinsed several times and used until they are to dirty or flow rate is diminished or it takes longer to fill a jug of pure water. The Price is $4.00

2. C-2 Black carbon-sediment cartridge for chlorinated water supply.  This removes the chlorine and should be replaced every 3 months since they do become saturated with chlorine.  The price is $6.00
All cartridges should be rinsed off with a swift stream of cold water at least every two weeks to dislodge any sediment particles. The enclosed wrench makes this an easy task. It is well to remember that cartridges need regular rinsing even though they do not show evidence of large particles. The smaller particles (less than 30 microns) cannot be seen by the naked eye and yet the smaller particles are more of a hazard to the membrane and tend to plug the tiny openings more readily. All reverse osmosis units work by pressure. Plugged prefilters lower operating pressure which in turn lowers the efficiency of removal of the impurities in the water.

Pollution from industry, farming and human wastes all find their way into our water supply. Even though the U.S. politicians have set limits on the amount of contaminants allowed in our drinking water, we believe that these limits are too high. The toxins in drinking water collect on our organs over time and have been show to cause various illnesses. The miles of pipe (many times rather old) between the water plant and your home can also introduce contaminants. We advise against drinking unfiltered tap water.
